You can expect to have your massage in a safe, nurturing environment. You can expect to feel peaceful, totally relaxed and calm afterwards. You can expect to be listened to – you are the one who knows your body. I cannot "fix” you, since you are not broken. I can assist your body in finding its way to optimal health through stress-relief and relaxation. I view my clients as whole, and hold that vision for them.
We will start the session by discussing your goals, even if it is just to relax and de-stress. You will then be left alone in the massage room to undress to your level of comfort. You’ll get on the massage table, where you will cover yourself up with the sheet and blankets. I don’t enter the room until you tell me that you are ready. There is music playing in the background, unless you prefer silence. When the massage is done, I leave the room for you to re-dress in private.
Additional notes:
***I use conservative draping protocol, meaning sheets are mandatory and I uncover parts of the body as I work on them.
***Although I understand the desire to be massaged outdoors in nature, I prefer to massage indoors.
***I require that the indoor air quality be good, meaning no second-hand smoke, odors, or air pollutants.
***Please let me know during booking, if you have special needs or requests.
***This is a professional massage service for therapeutic purposes. Please be respectful.
Integrated Deep Tissue and Swedish Therapeutic Massage are the foundation of my massage practice.
I also use many other techniques depending on what is necessary to achieve a relaxation response. Such as, the "mirror opposite" technique to effectively release knots and relax muscles. Another technique I frequently use is contract-relax while applying deep pressure. I use it to re-educate all the muscles surrounding the shoulder blade, which releases the dreaded shoulder neck stiffness.
With your consent and if I deem appropriate, I occasionally massage the abdomen. Nerves run through the abdominal region that affect the neck, shoulders, and back. Also, the psoas muscle is accessed through the lower abdomen and is important when dealing with low back and hip pain. If you have been getting massages and your back pain is not going away, the problem may be in the front of the trunk.
The level of pressure I use is determined by your preference as well as what I feel is necessary to release bound up tissue. During the massage, you give me feedback so I always stay within your level of comfort.
I do not do entire sessions devoted to manual lymph drainage. I incorporate my knowledge of lymph drainage techniques with therapeutic swedish or deep tissue massage as per client request for the purpose of reducing swelling, speeding up healing, and increasing circulation of waste products out of the system. The lymph drainage techniques that I perform are NOT meant for clients with lymphedema, serious circulatory or cardiac problems, clients who are undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, individuals with recent surgeries or unhealed incisions, or individuals with an acute infection or inflammation.
For safety considerations, I do not apply deep pressure or do trigger point therapy during a prenatal massage. I do not massage an expecting mother during the first trimester of pregnancy. Some prenatal massage contraindications are abdominal pain, diarrhea, fever, gestational diabetes, heavy discharge, uncontrolled high blood pressure, inflammation, raised varicose veins, or urinary tract infection.
Do you do energy or light touch therapy (i.e. craniosacral therapy, reiki, etc)?
No. My focus is on targeting deeper layers of tissue with mechanical pressure if that's where the cells lie that need to be reached. I use light pressure if the client has a medical condition which only requires contact with superficial tissue.
I do not subcontract with any other massage therapists. If someone requests a couple massage, I do both massages back-to-back.
